Hello, This issue might have been already addressed before, if that is the case then I missed it. Could you guys tell us the reason why you are increasing your commission charges to 15% for fashion? Did you guys carry out a survey that enabled you arrive at the conclusion to increase commission charges for fashion? Are you guys trying to compare China fashion products to products sourced from USA and UK? Personally I believe the increase of the commission charges for fashion is unfair. I know a date has already been fixed when the new commission charges are to take effect, but I still would like to appeal that you guys reverse that commission charges for fashion permanently or atleast till exchange rate improves favorably. Because if you guys are expecting us to sell fashion items sourced from USA and UK at the same price with fashion items sourced from China and co. then you guys are being totally unfair. You might argue that we fashion sellers should increase our prices to cover the commission charges, but even at the current commission charges it is difficult for us to make sales, how much more when we now further increase the prices so as to cover for the new commission, that means we fashion sellers will end up being the ones running a loss and then having to start wearing the items we are selling because no one will buy at that amount. Thank you, Henri

Dear all, While we understand your concerns, the increase in commission charges across all product categories is to ensure sustainable provision of essential services that will be beneficial to our sellers, our customers and the company as a whole. As the new rates take effect on Friday July 31st 2015, we encourage you to consider product bundling for low and medium valued items in order to manage the minimum commission value that will be capped at N200. For other suggestions regarding the commission rates and other sustainable ways to improve the marketplace, please channel through email@example.com Thank you

@Dorcas A, you are so very much on point with your observations. I am steadily beginning to think Konga might have intentions of phasing out marketplace sellers from their platform. I took a look on some of the fashion items konga sells on their store, and a lot of them are clearly screaming "China" and their prices are okay for that quality, but the fact remains as you pointed out that a lot of us fashion sellers also know the way to China either through flight or via ordering online. According to Ebere O(the MOD), she says that Konga carried out a survey, either Konga did not actually carry out a survey, or the survey was carried out halfway, or the survey was carried out in the wrong category which does not apply to fashion. This is something that any internet savvy individual can carry out on his/her own, very simple to do, open some USA fashion stores, check how much they sell their items, convert it to Naira price, then check cost of shipping to an address in USA(because most of these stores won't ship internationally), then also check cost of shipping from that receiving address in USA to your receiving address in Nigeria, then check cost of customs clearance/tax. That being said, it is obvious Konga definitely did not carry out any survey with regards to the fashion line because if they did, they would actually reduce their commission for fashion rather than increase it. If you ask me, I would say this is the typical Nigerian greed in action, they have found out that they have gotten a serious foothold in Nigeria, now they want us all to dance to their tunes. I am very certain that in a couple of minutes or hours this post of mine will be DELETED by Konga MODS or closed.

@ Henri K, I have raised this point here before. The commission rate for Kids and fashion is on the high side. I also source my product from USA as well and seriously with this new commission, I am actually thinking konga does not want to accommodate some of us. I am sure most people that buy their product from either UK or USA know where to get china product but for someone like me I always choose quality over quantity. I started selling on konga 3 month ago,One of the reason why i started selling on konga was because even when there is alot of china product, there are still lot of quality products too. Konga is also a seller on this platform as well and they know the difference in China products and other quality products. The truth is that this increased commission will have a negative effect on the platform as well as more people will start sourcing their product from china and some buyers may decide not to shop on the platform again since they are not sure of the quality they are buying. Even if we are saying that they can return an item if they don't want it,some experienced buyers see returning an item as a waste of time and energy.
