  • Important Changes: Increased Commission Charges and Suspension of The Proposed Monthly Membership Fees

    Dear Sellers,
    
    As a community, you have spoken and we have listened. We appreciate your feedback on the monthly membership fees and all raised suggestions on possible increase in commissions. To ensure that we continue to provide a rewarding yet sustainable trading platform, we are introducing some new changes:
    
    1) The monthly membership fee will not be introduced nor applicable, until further notice.
    
    2) Effective July 31 2015, we will be introducing increased commission charges for better trading and logistics services. The minimum commission charged would be capped at N200.
    
    As we prepare to implement these changes, we will keep you updated ​on this as well as new plans to root out unserious buyers​ ​through series of emails as well as posts on the Forum and BBM Channel - C003EF7E1

    Please cap at N125.
    
    N200 is high for low priced items.  Lets keep prices low for customers

    Am I the only one that thinks that although the commission idea may be a better alternative, the percentages we are being given are quite high. These percentages will resultantly raise the prices of goods exponentially

    Dear Konga,
    
    The additional 4% increase in Konga's commission is so ridiculous and for me (my opinion) is that this will only benefit some particular sellers. Well, I am also opposed to the N2500 monthly payment but with the new additional proposed commission by Konga, the N2500 and the new commission would be a rip-off on us as a seller.
    
    See below my short analysis:   An item of N15,000 with 8.5% commission = N1275 but now we will be mandated to pay N1800 for my category additional 4%. The implication of this is that prices of items will be increased and the effect is will reduce sale and this will affect but the sellers and Konga i.e the more sales we make as sellers the more Konga's commission is  increased. Also take a look at which at the item is N40,000 - Konga's commission will be N4800 and how much do we have to make as seller ?
    
    I also noticed that their is no uniformity in the increased commission's,some categories were increased by 1-2 % by my category Baby, Kids and Toys was in creased by 4% , is there any reason for this ? Are we going to be giving more priority than others  .
    
    Kindly the review the commission rate and also the N2500 issues as a new seller in Konga we will have extend our means of making sale by joining other online platforms.

    This was the plan from the beginning though. 
    Obviously favours the bigger stores/merchants.
    
    Also, the 45,000 PoD window favours only the bigger merchants. How many merchants have 45k items in their stores please?
    
    I am tired of coming here...will have to go adjust my prices anyway.

    @Victor,
    Premium Merchants are Large premium stores on Konga Mall retailing a major category of products in significant volume ,They are not necessarily premium merchants with gold badge.
    Merchants with the gold badge are premium merchants with orders greater than or equals to 1000,  delivery rate more than 60% and products count of more than 20.

    The new commission is a welcome development and is a better alternative to the proposed monthly fee. I believe it is a win/win for both sellers and Konga. We hope that when the market stabilizes we will see a downward review of the commission.
     Whilst I have the opportunity of selling on other platforms (which I do) and am not required to pay commission, I still believe in the Konga brand and grateful for the platform as it was my first platform into ecommerce.

    I just got an email with the increased commission rates, it is high and outrageous.....12% for baby, kids and toys compared to 8.5%, fashion items 10 to 15%. Konga abeg ooooo - exchange rate has gone up for most of us that buy from abroad.

    Wait o, Konga how can you increase the commission charged on Fashion from 10% to 15% ? Like what exactly is the rationale behind that? How much do we Fashion sellers buy the items we sell? Not to talk of cost of shipping these items from abroad to Nigeria and also settling the people at the Customs. You people have to review that commission amount downwards, just imagine, from 10% to 15%, seems you all don't know the current financial state of the country aby.

    That monthly fee should not even be mentioned again. Isn't it better to pay for commission per item sold, than to pay monthly even when you don't have a sale in a particular month (s)? 
    We'll make do with the commission. 
    We can't have it our way all the time.
