  • NEW SHQ ought to allow option for buyers pay for delivery before item gets to them

With the new SHQ, merchants are more disadvantaged!! What happens when a merchant ships 5 orders via K-Express and three buyers reject or return the item due to change of mind or "not having money to pay"?? The seller bears the loss in instances like this!! I believe there should be an option where the buyers pay only for the shipping of items to them and can make payment for the ordered item with POD! Konga needs to go back to the drawing board with this new SHQ thing else merchants will be be running at losses!

@Sam - Yes, we can make things work again now we understand a little bit more of the behind the scenes challenges.

@Bret - thanks for taking the time to explain; it makes a world of difference!

@Sam you are absolutely right. Until there is another way for people to pay easily - that allows both buyers and sellers to be happy and know they are both protected - removing Pay on Delivery basically results in plummeting sales.

Konga understands that 95% of the challenges with ecommerce in the country fall at the doorstep of a broken payment system. The closest thing we have is bank transfers but that doesn't protect the buyer.

We are working on an automated solution with our banking partners that should solve all these problems. This solution will give seller comfort that the goods have been paid for and payment will be immediately released once delivery is made. It will give buyer confidence that their money is protected and can be easily returned if the delivery is not made.

Until this solution is ready, I advise the following:

    1. Deliver nationwide using KExpress or other couriers that may accept PoD
    2. If you don't trust KExpress or other companies, or are uncomfortable with high return levels, deliver only to areas where you are comfortable you can deliver yourself and accept Pay on Delivery.

@Dumebi, and others, did you receive konga email today? Apparently they have removed the option to disable POD from the merchants shipping a d delivery page and have made some adjustments in their stance....SALES DROPPED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think with their new offer, we can make things work again...

@Sam B and all other commenters + followers of this post...I believe Konga just answered our question.

Snippet - "For K-Express and other partnered shipping carriers, if a buyer rejects an item at the point of delivery whether prepaid or POD, you will bear the cost as a merchant."

Tolulope O said it best - "Folks, prepare for a lull in Konga business, pursue other avenues aggressively, we are officially on our own."

Adeola, that will be the reaction. It turns out buyers do not receive notification of these updates and changes so we sound like liars and fraudsters when we call them...can you imagine...

I don't believe Konga should reverse the decision. It's a good one and stands to benefit us all in the long run.

Teething problems were inevitable and perhaps Konga has initiated too much too soon. I believe they ran a pilot trial for Self-Delivery which obviously didn't reveal as much as a site-wide launch has revealed.
Maybe they should have staggered Self-Fulfil, initiating it one product category at a time with a 2-4wk interval to enable them learn from + iron out kinks before launching with the next batch.

And I don't see our comments as complaining (semantics, I know), I prefer to think of it as bringing to light problems we've encountered/are encountering and offering possible solutions to those problems aka constructive feedback :-)

i have been calling a buyer in Kano to arrange delivery but he thought it was a fraud that Konga normally delivers before POD so why am i bothering him. This order was placed before the Self Fulfill go live.. The buyer is not cooperating. What do we do?

    This matter is really complicated.
Has it really been well thought out?

Kemi, if buyer is in Lagos you'd have to take the item to him or her o. Konga is pretty messed up at the moment and if you check all over the forum, its all complaints upon complaints. It's really frustrating.
